Genre filmmaker Neil Marshall's latest movie THE RECKONING has been doing the festival rounds in recent months, and now the Highland Film Group has announced what his next project is going to be – an action horror film called THE LAIR.
Marshall will be directing THE LAIR from his own script and will also be producing the the Neil Marshall / Scarlett Productions Ltd project. Casting is currently underway, with filming expected to begin next spring.
I'm always interested in following Marshall's career, but what makes this one especially exciting to me is the fact that it's taking the director back to DOG SOLDIERS territory. Eighteen years and some cool movies later, DOG SOLDIERS (buy it HERE) remains my favorite Marshall film.
The story of THE LAIR centers on
a downed Royal Air Force pilot who escapes a terrifying bunker in Afghanistan containing mutant man-made biological weapons, and unwittingly brings the creatures back to a US Army base.
Soldiers fighting monsters in a Marshall movie again? This has the potential to be awesome.
Marshall had this to say about THE LAIR:
If THE RECKONING was a gothic drama in testament to the power and resilience of women, then THE LAIR is my true return to full-blooded horror and intense genre action in the style of DOG SOLDIERS, THE DESCENT, and DOOMSAY. I'm making something scary as hell, pulse-pounding and great fun. This is a crowd pleaser. An adrenaline pumping roller-coaster ride. Spectacular and loud; inspired by classic genre movies like ALIENS, PREDATOR, and THE THING and their incredible use of practical creature FX."
Highland Film Group is handling worldwide sales on THE LAIR and is presenting the project to potential buyers at the American Film Market.
