Raise your hand if you've ever heard the tragic tale of La Llorona, also known as The Weeping Woman. Okay, so a few of you have, that's cool. For those who have not, La Llorona is a terrifying apparition, trapped between the realms of Heaven and Hell, cursed to float along in Limbo, a fate sealed by her own hand. Simply by mentioning her name can you send shivers down the spines of those who fear her. In life, she drowned her children in a jealous rage, throwing herself in the churning river after them as she wept in pain. Now her tears are eternal. They are lethal, and those who hear her death call in the night are doomed. La Llorona creeps in the shadows and preys on the children, desperate to replace her own. As the centuries have passed, her desire has grown more voracious…and her methods more terrifying.
Today, ahead of tomorrow's trailer reveal, Warner Bros. has released a new poster for THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA, an upcoming horror mystery thriller from director Michael Chaves (CHASE CHAMPION, THE MAIDEN). Written by Mikki Daughtry (SLEEP TIGHT, FIVE FEET APART) and Tobias Iaconis (ELSEWHERE, SLEEP TIGHT), the film takes place in 1970s Los Angeles, where La Llorona is stalking the night—and the children. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, a social worker and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. Their only hope to survive La Llorona’s deadly wrath may be a disillusioned priest and the mysticism he practices to keep evil at bay, on the fringes where fear and faith collide. Beware of her chilling wail…she will stop at nothing to lure you into the gloom. Because there is no peace for her anguish. There is no mercy for her soul.
And there is no escape from the curse of La Llorona.
The film stars Linda Cardellini (FREAKS AND GEEKS, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON), Raymond Cruz (ALIEN: RESURRECTION, TRAINING DAY) and Patricia Velasquez (MINDHUNTERS, THE MUMMY franchise). The cast also includes Marisol Ramirez (RIGHT AT YOUR DOOR, THE DISTRICT), Sean Patrick Thomas (CRUEL INTENTIONS, HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION), Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen (SELF/LESS) and newcomer Roman Christou.
James Wan, Gary Dauberman and Emile Gladstone will produce Chaves' feature directorial debut, while Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Walter Hamada, Michelle Morrissey and Michael Clear are poised to serve as the film's executive producers. Lastly, the music will be provided by Joseph Bishara of ANNABELLE and THE CONJURING fame.
You can take a look at the brand-new poster for the film below … if you dare. Furthermore, be sure to check back tomorrow when the first trailer for the film bubbles to the surface. THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA will surface in theaters beginning on April 19, 2019.
