Ever wondered how many people lose their lives in any particular horror movie? Well, we've got you covered with THE KILL COUNTER, our hit series takes out the guesswork and counts every death on (and sometimes off) screen. Break out your calculator and try to keep up! On this week's episode, we take on TOTAL RECALL and STARSHIP TROOPERS director Paul Verhoeven's 1987 cyberpunk action film ROBOCOP starring Peter Weller.
Based on the screenplay written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner, it begins:
In a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit, evil corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-eradicating cyborgs, the company leads street cop Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) into an armed confrontation with crime lord Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith) so they can use his body to support their untested RoboCop prototype. But when RoboCop learns of the company's nefarious plans, he turns on his masters.
All of this is in celebration of the fact that director Neill Blomkamp (DISTRICT 9) is developing ROBOCOP RETURNS, a new installment in the series along with MGM. The new film is the TRUE sequel to ROBOCOP we were always supposed to get – but never did – and Blomkamp has assured fans it will be a hard R motion picture and that Peter Weller (may) return to the titular lead role. Original writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner are producing and exec producing and Justin Rhodes (the new TERMINATOR flick) will rewrite the script that Neumeier and Miner wrote way back in the 80's.
