The Invisible Man’s Jason Blum would love to bring Frankenstein to life

Following the failure of THE MUMMY, the Dark Universe franchise quickly crashed and burned, leaving the fate of the infamous Universal Monsters up in the air; Enter Leigh Whannell's THE INVISIBLE MAN, which has become a critical and commercial success less than a week after its release. This has left many fans excited for future reimaginings of the Universal Monsters, and Jason Blum, THE INVISIBLE MAN producer and Blumhouse Productions CEO, is keen to continue playing in that universe.

Jason Blum spoke on The Evolution of Horror podcast and was asked which Universal Monster he'd like to tackle next.

I’d love to do Frankenstein. I’ve tasked our filmmakers with trying to figure out just straight Frankenstein. Again, I don’t know if someone else is doing it, I don’t know anything about it, but I would love to try and I’m waiting for the great idea…the best ideas feel like, ‘My gosh, it’s so obvious, why didn’t that happen before?’ If we could come up with something as good for Frankenstein, I’d love to try that.

As Blum mentioned, he doesn't know much about any FRANKENSTEIN projects already in the works, but the fact that he's already tasked his filmmakers with trying to figure something out shows that it could very well be a possibility for Blumhouse. Aside from Dracula, the story of Frankenstein's monster is probably one of the most adapted monster stories out there, so discovering a new take on the tale won't be an easy task. One FRANKENSTEIN project which still seems to be on life-support is Universal's remake of BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. It was revealed last month that former Sony chief Amy Pascal, who has an overall deal with Universal, has been attempting to get the project off the ground and has reportedly presented the project to several potential collaborators, including director Sam Raimi, screenwriter David Koepp, and A QUIET PLACE writer/director John Krasinski.
