The internet is a dark place in new Unfriended: Dark Web trailer, poster

The internet is a gateway to the world, offering access to virtually anything you could ever want, especially if you know where to look. However, there are places you definitely should not go, and in the new trailer for the movie UNFRIENDED: DARK WEB from Blumhouse we’re reminded that the internet can be a grim, terrifying place. And this movie doesn’t even get into what you can find on Breitbart.

Here is the plot synopsis:

When a 20-something finds a cache of hidden files on his new laptop, he and his friends are unwittingly thrust into the depths of the dark web.  They soon discover someone has been watching their every move and will go to unimaginable lengths to protect the dark web. 

I believe this is the trailer I saw in front of HEREDITARY the other night and people seemed to have a fun reaction to it. The first movie had some creative, freaky moments and was better than I was expecting, so maybe this one will be surprising as well. Between this and another movie called SEARCHING with John Cho I'm wondering if chatroom-based horror/thriller movies are taking the place of found footage flicks. I mean, it's not like young people go out into the world and film stuff anymore, so if any supernatural terror is to happen it's more prone to occur when one of them is filming their video blog in their room. 

UNFRIENDED: DARK WEB is in theaters July 20.
