It took all of one weekend for Universal to announce that audiences would be getting a sequel to JURASSIC WORLD, but now we finally know who will be directing it! JURASSIC WORLD director Colin Trevorrow is staying on board to help write and produce the flick, but he announced today, along with Frank Marshall, that J.A. Bayona is the man who will be calling the shots behind the camera!
Bayona was quick to make a name for himself with two very compelling flicks, THE ORPHANAGE and THE IMPOSSIBLE, before moving to to make A MONSTER CALLS, which hits theaters October 14th of this year. As with Trevorrow, it looks as though Universal's primary concern was to find someone who could help build rich and compelling characters to interact with our dinosaurs. Given Bayona's filmography, he's arguably more qualified than Trevorrow to helm a film of this nature.
There's been a lot of rumors surrounding the story, but all we know for sure is that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be reprising their roles, respectively. Now that we're (hopefully) moving away from the theme park formula established in the original, I'd say there's more than enough room to bring back Alan Grant and Ian Malcolm, wouldn't you say?
JURASSIC WORLD 2 will hit theaters on June 22, 2018.
How do you feel about J.A. Bayona directing JURASSIC WORLD 2?
