While filming is to begin soon for THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, the film is still to find some of its crucial cast members. We’ve already heard rumors and announcements concerning the roles of Finnick Odair and Plutarch Heavensbee and now we learn that both Mia Wasikowska and Zoe Aggeliki have been in talks to play one of the key characters in the sequel.
According to The Playlist, director Francis Lawrence is currently searching for an actress to portray the character of Johanna Mason, who “becomes a strong ally with Katniss and Peeta during the 75th Hunger Games, but has a testy relationship with Katniss who likens her to an older sister who hates you. She’s a fierce competitor who has no family and friends left in District 7 where she hails, with her weapon of choice being an axe”.
While nothing is yet set in stone, the buzz is that Aggeliki (below) is close to securing the part. While the name might not sound familiar, the model-turned-actress will appear in several upcoming films, such as R.I.P.D. (starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges) and MANIAC, alongside Elijah Wood. Mia Wasikowska, on the other hand, is an experienced actress with starring roles in such movies as ALICE IN WONDERLAND and JAYNE EYRE under her belt. Whoever will end up getting the part, production on CATCHING FIRE is to commence soon, with the movie still set for a November 22, 2013 release date.
