The Hunger: Angela Robinson directing remake of Tony Scott vampire film

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Warner Bros. has announced that they're moving ahead with a remake of the 1983 Tony Scott vampire film The Hunger (which you can watch HERE). American Horror Story writer Jessica Sharzer is writing the script, with D.E.B.S. director / True Blood executive producer Angela Robinson in final talks to direct the film.

Based on a novel by Whitley Strieber (buy it HERE), the 1983 version of The Hunger was written by Michael Thomas and James Costigan (a.k.a. Ivan Davis). Starring David Bowie, Catherine Deneuve, and Susan Sarandon, the film told the following story:

John is the lover of the gorgeous immortal vampire Miriam, and he's been led to believe that he'll live forever, too. Unfortunately, he quickly deteriorates into a horrible living death, and Miriam seeks a new companion. She soon sets her sights on Sarah, a lovely young scientist, who quickly falls under Miriam's spell. However, Sarah doesn't warm up to the concept of vampirism easily, leading to conflict with Miriam.

The remake is being produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, with Mike McGrath executive producing.

It's tough to imagine what a new version of The Hunger would be like, because there's no way it will be anything like the one we already got. Only Tony Scott in the '80s could have made that Hunger what it was.
