The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, release, Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson

When you combine the incredible chemistry of Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, you can get away with a lot, and although The Hitman's Bodyguard received rather mixed reviews several years, the two actors gave the action/comedy a welcome boost, which has me cautiously optimistic for the upcoming sequel: The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard.

It turns out that we'll get to see The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard sooner than expected as Lionsgate have announced that they have pushed up the release date from August 20th to June 16th. The sequel will build upon the first film as the world's most lethal odd couple, bodyguard Michael Bryce (Reynolds) and hitman Darius Kincaid (Jackson), team up for another life-threatening mission, but this time, they'll be joined by Darius's volatile wife Sonia (Salma Hayek). Lionsgate's president of Worldwide Distribution Ron Schwartz said, "This is the kind of summer action film that delivers even more comedy and more thrilling action than the first film – and it’s perfect for fans new to the franchise as well. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is what summer moviegoing is all about – great, crowd-pleasing entertainment." We don't often see release dates move forward in the age of COVID, but as theaters begin to open, we'll likely be seeing more of it. You can check out an image from the sequel below.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard will find Bryce – still unlicensed and under scrutiny – forced into action by "Darius and his wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia. As Bryce is driven over the edge by his two most dangerous protectees, the trio get in over their heads in a global plot and soon find that they are all that stand between Europe and a vengeful and powerful madman (Antonio Banderas). Joining in the fun and deadly mayhem is Morgan Freeman as… well, you’ll have to see." As mentioned above, the sequel will now hit theaters on June 16, 2021.
