Netflix has released two batches of posters for their upcoming series The Haunting of Bly Manor, one set giving us a look at some of the characters that will be featured on the show, and the other set revealing the titles of all nine episodes. Assuming that the title of episode 8 is indeed just a bunch of dashes. If not, I'm guessing those dashes are standing in for the title The Romance of Certain Old Clothes.
A new season in the "Haunting" anthology series that began with The Haunting of Hill House (pick up a copy HERE), The Haunting of Bly Manor will be available to watch on the Netflix streaming service as of October 9th.
Bly Manor was executive produced by Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy through their company Intrepid Pictures. The show is based on the 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, and will also work in elements from, according to Flanagan, "a dozen" other James ghost stories, including The Jolly Corner, about a menacing doppelgänger, and The Romance of Certain Old Clothes, about two sisters and a mysterious chest of beloved dresses. Macy calls it a "literary remix".
The show is set in
1980s England. After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) hires a young American nanny (Victoria Pedretti) to care for his orphaned niece and nephew (Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) who reside at Bly Manor.
They are joined there by the estate’s chef Owen (Rahul Kohli), groundskeeper Jamie (Amelia Eve), and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (T’Nia Miller). But all is not as it seems at the manor, and centuries of dark secrets of love and loss are waiting to be unearthed in this gothic romance. At Bly Manor, dead doesn’t mean gone.
In addition to the actors mentioned in the synopsis, Kate Siegel, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Tahirah Sharif are also in the cast.
The premiere of The Haunting of Bly Manor is in eight days, and I intend to binge my way through it the weekend of release.
