Last May, The Guest screenwriter Simon Barrett confirmed that something Guest-related was in the works. Something meant to appease fans that keep asking him and director Adam Wingard if there’s going to be a sequel. He said, “We are trying to come up with a way to deliver The Guest 2 that doesn’t disappoint people. It wouldn’t be a feature film, a comic book or anything like that. It would be something different. So we’re trying to work on something different right now.” Something different has now been released online. On Spotify, you can listen to The Guest II: Original Soundtrack, music compiled to go along with a sequel that doesn’t actually exist.
Steve Moore, who composed the score for The Guest, also composed a couple tracks for this soundtrack album, and the title of one – along with the accompanying artwork, which can be seen at the bottom of this article – implies that the story for this non-existent sequel would involve “the guest” David (Dan Stevens) going up against some kind of a cult. The track is called “David vs. the Splinters of the Cross“.
The artwork also features Maika Monroe’s character Anna, armed for battle.
Barrett said last year that the Guest-related project they were working on would
(tell) you what the further adventures of Dan Stevens’ character and Maika Monroe’s character and Brendan Meyer’s character, what those could have been. And then, we’ll see if it leads into anything more concrete, but we’re not going to exploit any of our fans and we’re not going to ruin anything. What’s a way to respect that and give them something, but not disappoint them and not let them down? And that’s a real challenge, and I think we have a cool answer, but we’ll see. People might be really pissed off.”
Wingard said,
We do have a very special Guest “sequel” that I’m working on in an unconventional way. It has to do with the music from The Guest, so there is going to be a big Guest thing coming up really soon that I think is going to thrill people.”
Barrett seemed hesitant to put a full story of The Guest 2 out into the world in any medium, concerned about disappointing expectations, but Wingard has said that a limited series follow-up could be possible at some point.
