As we’ve seen with SPIDER-MAN, the spool down times for a series to qualify to be able to be rebooted is getting shorter and shorter, and now, a mere seven years after the American version of the film came out, THE GRUDGE is said to be boarding the reboot train.
The news comes from Bloody Disgusting who claims that after Ghost House scrapped plans for a fourth GRUDGE film (the second one was in theaters, the third on DVD), they’re just rebooting the entire series for a new look at the franchise.
Whether this makes it to theaters is the question. I would think a reboot would imply that would be the case, but won’t people be a bit confused when they see THE GRUDGE in theaters again?
I for one would love to see the series die. The Japanese version might have been worthwhile, but the American remake is one of the most supremely awful horror films I’ve ever seen, and I doubt anything productive could be done with the same story again.
