Stealing Christmas from a small town is a daunting task, but the Grinch proves that with a little inventiveness, a sprinkle of anger and a dash of vengeance you can do just about anything. In the new international trailer for THE GRINCH from Illumination, we get to see the green meanie (Benedict Cumberbatch) formulate his plan to steal joy and magic from the saps in Whoville. This means going undercover as the jolly ol’ Santa himself and drawing his plot on the largest chalkboard the world has ever seen. It’s amazing what you can get from Sky Mall.
Here is the plot synopsis:
The Grinch hatches a scheme with his trusted canine Max to ruin Christmas when the residents of Whoville plan their annual holiday celebration.[4] Meanwhile, Cindy Lou Who plans to seek out Santa Claus to thank him for helping her single mother every Christmas, something which will interfere with the Grinch's plans.
We may already know how the story goes, but Illumination is doing what they do best with THE GRINCH and putting a colorful, cute spin on the iconic tale. The original animated film is still a Christmas classic that gets played around the holidays, and the live-action Jim Carrey flick made a ton of cash back in the day and remains a classic to anyone not terrified by the makeup. This movie will likely be big like Illumination's other flicks, and perhaps it can stand out enough from the other two to be a Christmas classic in its own right. Or, we can settle on it just being adorable and bright.
THE GRINCH hits theaters November 9.
