The Green Knight clip: Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander star in A24 fantasy film

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Writer/director David Lowery's fantasy adventure film The Green Knight is set to reach theatres this Friday, July 30th, and in the embed above you'll find a clip featuring stars Dev Patel and Alicia Vikander, making religious references while they're inside what appears to be a "house of ill repute". In case you haven't seen the film's trailer yet, that's also in the embedded video.

Described as "an epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend", The Green Knight also stars Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Erin Kellyman, and Ralph Ineson. The story centers on

Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger.

The film is rated R for "violence, some sexuality, and graphic nudity". Apparently "graphic nudity" is how the Motion Picture Association describes it when a film shows a penis on screen, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the penis gets flashed during the segment the above clip has been lifted from.

The Green Knight is being distributed by A24. It was originally scheduled to reach theatres on May 29, 2020, but was pushed back fourteen months due to the pandemic. Much like the A24 release Lamb, which I posted an article about earlier today, this looks like a movie I will watch at some point, but not one I'm going to see in a theatre.

David Lowery's previous directing credits include Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Pete's Dragon, A Ghost Story, and The Old Man & the Gun. He's working on Peter Pan & Wendy for Disney.
