The Good Neighbor: Jonathan Rhys Meyers thriller to get June release from Screen Media

Deadline reports that Screen Media has picked up the North American distribution rights to The Good Neighbor, a psychological thriller starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Mission: Impossible III), and are planning to give the film a day-and-date theatrical and VOD release in June.

An English-language remake of the 2011 German thriller Unter Nachbarn, The Good Neighbor is coming to us from the same director as the original film, Stephan Rick. This time around, Rick was working from a screenplay written by Room 104‘s Rick and Ross Partridge. The story of The Good Neighbor centers on new neighbors David and Robert,

who find themselves bonded by a hit-and-run accident. When the dead girl’s sister shows up to investigate, David, overcome with guilt, wonders if he can find redemption while Robert is determined to bury the past and keep his new friend for himself, no matter the cost.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays Roberts, and David is played by Luke Kleintank of Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle. Bruce Davison (the original Willard) is also in the cast.

Rick had this to say about the remake:

Revisiting the material, I realized the underlying themes are more relevant than ever. The film is a modern tale about masculinity in crisis and the abyss we all look into, once the thin veil of civilization is ripped off.”

Screen Media provided the following statement:

The Good Neighbor is a gripping psychological thrill ride. The chemistry between stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Luke Kleintank makes their ‘friend or foe’ dynamic especially memorable.”

The Good Neighbor was produced by Dean Altit, Yulia Zayceva, Forma Pro Films, and Altit Media Group. Kimberly Hines, Rami Jaber, Kia Jam, Jeff Kranzdorf, Ross Partridge, Max Pavlov, Igor Pronin, Svetlana Punte, Qais Qandil, Stephan Rick, Patrick Rizzotti and Jim Steele served as executive producers.
