David Fincher's THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara was one of my favorite films the year it hit. Like many of you, I eagerly awaited the sequel. And it never came about. Instead this year we got Fede Alvarez's THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB (pre-order HERE) starring Claire Foy as the (new) girl with the dragon tattoo, Lisbeth Salander.

I'm a big fan of Alvarez's EVIL DEAD remake and DON'T BREATHE so even though I'm still sore that Fincher, Craig, and especially Mara were left out of this new film, I'm still looking forward to owning this new version on Blu-ray. And speaking of which, today we have word via Sony that the sequel will be hitting digital this January and then landing on Blu-ray and DVD via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment this February.

Synopsis:

Claire Foy stars in a new Dragon Tattoo story as Lisbeth Salander, the highly-skilled vigilante from the acclaimed Millennium book series. Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist find themselves caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials, as they race to rescue a dangerous program capable of global destruction held by shadowy figures linked to Lisbeth’s past.

The crime-thriller is based on the novel of the same name by David Lagercrantz, the fourth installment in Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series. Alvarez directs from a script he co-wrote with Jay Basu (MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT) and Steven Knight (LOCKE). Foy's co-stars include Sverrir Gudnason, LaKeith Stanfield, Sylvia Hoeks, Stephen Merchant, and Vicky Krieps. THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB will be hitting digital on January 22 and on Blu-ray and DVD via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on February 5.
