So one of my guilty pleasures that spawned from the 80’s was Tibor Takacs THE GATE. The film, which starred an incredibly young Stephen Dorff, was about three young children who accidentally release a horde of nasty, pint-sized demons from a hole in a suburban backyard. The children must survive the night and find a way to close the gate.
The movie is definitely a product of its time. Nothing says pure cheese then claymation and 80’s death metal references. So it pains me to find out that this film will get the remake treatment that it doesn’t deserve.
Joblo.com got the word that SFX master Randall William Cook (LOTR, KING KONG and the original THE GATE) will be directing the remake, but no writer has been announced. Also, one little interesting thing is that the film is going to be 3-D. Why, I don’t know. I personally don’t think the film should be touched, but assuming that the 1980’s was chock full of cheese horror, it doesn’t seem like the remake train will ever let down. As soon as I hear more about THE GATE remake, you will as well. This is one film I won’t let slip past me.
