Gerard McMurray, whose director credits include The First Purge as well as the Netflix Original film Burning Sands, is teaming up with the streamer once again for The Formula, an upcoming film starring John Boyega and Robert De Niro.
Directed, written, and produced by McMurray via his Buppie Productions label, The Formula will follow a Formula One racing prodigy who is forced to become a getaway driver to save the only family he has left. The aforementioned duo will also help produce the movie alongside McMurray and De Niro.
Boyega, whose face is now synonymous with the Star Wars franchise, recently starred in Steve McQueen's anthology film series Small Axe starring in the Red, White, and Blue chapter. Currently, he's in the midst of filming They Cloned Tyrone, an upcoming sci-fi comedy from Juel Taylor that revolves around a series of eerie events that thrusts an unlikely trio onto the trail of a nefarious government conspiracy in this pulpy mystery caper. Starring alongside Boyega in the film are Teyonah Parris (WandaVison), and Jamie Foxx (Baby Driver, Soul).
As for De Niro, the legendary actor's long-delayed comedy The War with Grandpa was recently released on Blu-ray. Meanwhile, De Niro is currently filming the Randall Emmett thriller Wash Me in the River. Also starring Jack Huston and John Malkovich, the film centers around a recovering opioid addict seeking revenge on the dealers responsible for selling the drugs that resulted in his fiance's death.
