The Flash Trailer: let’s get nuts with our first real look at the return of Michael Keaton as Batman

The Flash’s long and dramatic road to the big screen seems to have paid off, with Warner Bros revealing the first, full trailer for The Flash, Ezra Miller’s first (and possibly not last) solo outing as the scarlet speedster. Notably, the film is supposed to be one of the highest-testing movies in Warner Bros’ history, with James Gunn himself recently calling it one of the best superhero movies ever made. In addition to Miller, the film also features the long-awaited return of Michael Keaton as Batman, which is his first time under the cowl since 1992’s Batman Returns.

Shortly after, WB also released a “Big Game” TV spot with even more footage:

To be sure, many doubted we’d ever see the return of Keaton’s Caped Crusader, with his cameo in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom having (apparently) been cut, while his follow-up to The Flash, Batgirl, has been shelved. Many also wondered whether Miller’s personal issues would interfere with the release of this one. Still, with the actor apparently on the road to recovery, The Flash may find its June 16th release refreshingly free of controversy. Indeed, the new trailer for The Flash will likely get audiences pumped for what could be something really special.

Notably, CinemaCon attendees saw much of this footage at last April’s event, and the audience (including me) was excited by what we saw. Keaton looks fantastic in the Batsuit, and he notably dropped the fan-favorite “let’s get nuts” line to a crazed reply by all the exhibitors and journalists present. This trailer builds upon the fan-favorite legacy of the trailer by heavily featuring Danny Elfman’s iconic Batman Theme, and even has Keaton himself saying “I’m Batman.” Holy moly! Whatever the behind-the-scenes drama was, Andy Muschietti has made perhaps the most anticipated superhero event of the year. June 16th can’t get here fast enough.

Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
