The Flash is one of four movies in the DC Extended Universe set for a 2023 release. But it’s not only the tabloid fodder of Ezra Miller that might draw crowds, but also the appearance of Batman. Now, fans have gotten an early look at one of the Caped Crusader’s most iconic vehicles, the Batwing.

This week, the Twitter account The Flash Film News posted an image of new merchandise for the upcoming The Flash movie showcasing the Batwing with the words, “It seems THE FLASH merchandise is hitting store shelves. Here’s your look at the Batwing matching our description earlier this month.”

The Batwing–dubbed the “Ultimate Batwing” on the box art–design is indeed a variation that most Batman fans were familiar with–that is, the version seen in Tim Burton’s 1989 film–you know, before The Joker shot it down in the middle of Gotham City. The Batwing was also seen in 1995’s Batman Forever, in addition to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises (albeit with a seriously intimidating design) and Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman (in which it looked as half-assed as the movie itself).

Fortunately, the Batwing will probably be operated by Michael Keaton, marking his much-anticipated return to the Batman character. (Ben Affleck is also returning, but the buzz is exponentially greater for Keaton.) On returning, Keaton said, “The writing was actually really good. So I thought, why not? It’s cool to drop in and I’m curious to see if I can pull it off.” Undoubtedly Keaton can still pull it off, and judging by the toy design, the “ultimate” Batwing will be another welcome return to form.

Hopefully fans will see Michael Keaton as Batman in the first trailer for The Flash, which will reportedly premiere during Super Bowl LVII in February. Following that, the trailer is expected to be attached to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, out later that same week.

The Flash hits theaters on June 16, 2023.

What do you think of the updated look at the Batwing? Is it an improvement on the 1989 version? Give us your take in the comments section below!
