The Flash director Andy Muschietti is confident that Ezra Miller will be back if there’s a sequel to the movie.

The Flash, sequel, Ezra Miller

After months of hype, The Flash will finally hit theaters in a couple of weeks. Given the extremely positive reaction to the movie, you’d think that a sequel to The Flash would already be on the fast track, but things are complicated. In addition to major changes taking place in the DC Universe, there’s also the matter of the Erza Miller controversy. While Miller has been seeking professional help, some aren’t ready to put the scandal behind them, leaving the actor’s DC future in limbo.

While speaking on the Discourse podcast, The Flash director Andy Muschietti seems confident that if a sequel does happen, Ezra Miller will be returning. “If [a sequel] happens, yes,” Muschietti said. “I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys – it feels like a character that was made for them. The Flash producer Barbara Muschietti added, “In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional [actor]. Ezra gave everything for this role – physically, creatively, emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.” A sequel to The Flash has reportedly already been written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, but whether it moves forward or not is another story.

The first screening of The Flash took place at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last month and our own Chris Bumbray was in attendance. “Believe the hype folks – truly one of the great superhero movies,” Bumbray wrote in his first reaction. “Ezra Miller (x2), Sasha Calle and MICHAEL KEATON. It’s pretty perfect and one of the best films of this type you could ever hope to see.” You can check out more first reactions right here.

Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past,” reads the official synopsis of The Flash. “But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

The Flash will hit theaters on June 16th. If there is a sequel to The Flash, should Ezra Miller return?
