While the original POINT BREAK followed two charismatic leads in Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze amidst some surfing, free-falling and bank-robbing hijinx, the remake directed by Ericson Core is looking to expand on the extreme sports angle a bit. The basis is the same, as a young FBI agent (Luke Bracey) infiltrates an extraordinary team of extreme sports athletes he suspects of masterminding a string of corporate heists. The flick was filmed on four continents and presents feats performed by the world’s top athletes, including extreme sports such as snowboarding, wingsuit flying, free rock climbing, high-speed motocross, surfing 70-foot waves, and ruining our childhood. I jest, but check out the first trailer for the action-packed flick below!
While POINT BREAK served as a fun action vehicle for it’s time, I certainly don’t hold as much love for it as, say, Nick Frost does in HOT FUZZ. The actors of the original totally sold that film. I do like that they’re pushing the extreme sports angle even more-so here, but it remains to be seen if Bracey and Edgar Ramirez will have as much lovable chemistry as Reeves and Swayze did. Surely that would be the greatest Christmas present of all.
POINT BREAK aims to arrive in theaters on December 25, 2015.
