After letting my hype for Ridley Scott‘s PROMETHEUS reach unattainable levels, I promised myself that I wouldn’t do the same for the upcoming ALIEN: COVENANT, but I have a feeling that it’s easier said than done. Despite being connected to the ALIEN franchise, Scott made it clear that he wanted PROMETHEUS to stand on its own, but he’s obviously had a change of heart with the sequel as it seems to be fully embracing the ALIEN mythos and the beast at its center. The first teaser poster for ALIEN: COVENANT was released today and it features the Xenomorph we’ve all come to love and fear.
Simple. Effective. Spooky. I like it. Another good piece of news is that the release of ALIEN: COVENANT seems to have jumped forward by nearly three months, moving from its previous August 4, 2017 slot to May, 19, 2017. I’d imagine that a teaser trailer won’t be too far off either. The upcoming PROMETHEUS sequel, which has been called a “beautiful meeting” of both ALIEN and PROMETHEUS, stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, Demian Bichir and Noomi Rapace.
The official synopsis for ALIEN: COVENANT:
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
ALIEN: COVENANT will burst into theaters on May 19, 2017.
