Sure, PARASITE may be the critical darling of South Korean cinema at the moment, but does it really hold a candle to zombies on a train? Directed by Yeon Sang-ho and starring Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi, and Ma Dong-seok, TRAIN TO BUSAN largely took place on a train to Busan as a zombie apocalypse broke out in the country, threatening the safety of the passengers. The film was incredibly entertaining and even spawned an animated prequel, SEOUL STATION, as well as a sequel which will be arriving later this year.
Distributor Well Go USA Entertainment has released the first poster for the sequel, which goes by PENINSULA, and you can check that out below.
"The Korean peninsula is devastated and Jung-seok, a former soldier who has managed to escape overseas, is given a mission to go back and unexpectedly meets up with survivors," reads the official synopsis. Although PENINSULA is billed as a sequel to TRAIN TO BUSAN, Yeon Sang-ho told ScreenDaily in 2018 that, "It is an extension of Train To Busan, after the virus has spread throughout Korea, but the characters are not the same. It shares the same world view and is a zombie action film that deals with the aftermath on the peninsula of what happened in Train To Busan." Hopefully the release of this poster means that a trailer won't be too far off.
PENINSULA will hit cinemas in Korea this summer.
