What kind of a world do we live in where the sequels we do want (DUMB AND DUMBER TO) get cancelled and the ones no one would ever ask for in a million years actually get filmed?
Now, I may be jumping the gun on RAGING BULL II: RAGE HARDER, but why would you ever make a sequel to a classic film, especially one by one of the greatest directors of all time? You are just setting yourself up for EXORCIST II level disaster.
With no involvement from Martin Scorcese or Robert DeNiro, RAGING BULL II: CRUISE CONTROL has begun filming in Los Angeles. Below are the first two images from the film. Both are underwhelming and have the perfumed aroma of a low budget production. If this film is not released in black and white it will be a gigantic dump on the legacy of the original.
According to the press release “although Raging Bull gave us the adult version of Jake LaMotta, it did not provide the rare look into Jake’s childhood nor the impact of the after effects of his violent life. Raging Bull II provides this much desired insight into the real-life struggle of a down-and-out pugilist who turns his anger, abusive childhood into a boxing career. Although his brute force turned him into a middleweight champion, it also created challenges in his life.”
RAGING BULL II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES is being written and directed by Martin Guigui. The film stars William Forsythe, Joe Mantegna, Tom Sizemore, Penelope Ann Miller, and newcomer Mojean Aria as the young Jake LaMotta.
Looks like we will have to wait until 2013 to behold the majesty of this film.
