Once upon a time, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was poised to take the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the small-screen, but following the first season, the ratings for the series slowly began spiraling downward. A legion of passionate fans have kept the show alive, but all good things must come to an end as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will launch its seventh and final season next month.
ABC has released a trailer for the final season, which finds the team doing a little time-traveling. "Coulson and the Agents of SHIELD are thrust backward in time and stranded in 1931 New York City," reads the official synopsis. "With the all-new Zephyr set to time-jump at any moment, the team must hurry to find out exactly what happened. If they fail, it would mean disaster for the past, present, and future of the world." As I haven't kept up with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a number of years, I haven't the foggiest of what's going on here, but I'm sure there are more than a few fans out there who are sad to see the series go. The final season represents the end of an era, as Marvel Television was folded into Marvel Studios last December. Most Marvel shows which were still airing or in development were cancelled or shelved, with the exception of Helstrom, a series which follows the children of a powerful serial killer who hunt the worst of humanity. The 10-episode series is expected to debut on Hulu later this year.
The seventh and final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will debut on ABC on May 27, 2020.
