According to Variety, Ryan Gosling is expected to star in The Fall Guy, a feature-film adaptation of the 1980s TV series of the same name. David Leitch is said to be directing the film, which will soon start shooting in Sydney, Australia. Nothing is official yet, but the project was first reported two years ago.

The Fall Guy was created by Glen A. Larson and ran from 1981 to 1986 on ABC. The series starred Lee Majors as Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stunt man who moonlit as a bounty hunter. Using his physical skills and knowledge of stunt effects, he travelled around the country capturing fugitives and criminals. The project has received financing from the Australian federal government to the tune of $21.1 million and from the New South Wales state authorities kicking in $10.2. Paul Fletcher, Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, said that the film will provide thousands of jobs and inject more than $171 million into the Australian economy. In a statement, Fletcher said:

We are pleased to welcome ‘The Fall Guy’ down under with $30 million ($21.1 million) in support from our highly successful Location Incentive, with the production to employ over 1,000 Australian cast and crew, and more than 3,015 Australian extras.

This isn’t the first time that a feature-film adaptation of The Fall Guy has been considered. It was reported back in 2013 that Dwayne Johnson would star in The Fall Guy with McG set to direct, but the project fell apart.

Before Ryan Gosling takes to the world of stunts in The Fall Guy, he will next be seen starring alongside Chris Evans and Ana de Armas in The Gray Man. The action-thriller was directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and will debut on Netflix on July 22, 2022. He will also be seen playing Ken to Margot Robbie’s Barbie in the Barbie movie due to be released on July 21, 2023.
