I was a 9-year-old kid with a mild fascination with dinosaurs and a major love for cinema when the first JURASSIC PARK was released back in 1993, so I couldn't tell you how I managed to miss seeing that film on the big screen. But while JURASSIC PARK was giving kids of my generation a life-changing theatrical experience, I was home watching the mockbuster event of '93 on VHS – the Roger Corman-produced dino film CARNOSAUR… which didn't deliver on quite on the same spectacular level as Steven Spielberg's film did, but it had its own low-rent charms.
Lance Vlcek got the best of both worlds – he saw JURASSIC PARK in the theatre and watched CARNOSAUR. With the latest entry in the JURASSIC franchise, JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, set to reach theatres in the U.S. next week, Lance has decided to revisit CARNOSAUR with the latest video in our The F*cking Black Sheep series.
In case you're not familiar with CARNOSAUR, the film had the following synopsis:
From chicken eggs, a deranged geneticist brings dinosaurs back to life. A brilliant discovery, till she turns the carnivores loose on a quiet town. They breed like rats. They prey like the plague. It's man against the most vicious beasts of all time – and neither will survive while the other is alive.
What Lance has delivered with the video below is a retrospective on CARNOSAUR that probably has deeper emotional content than any review of this film ever had before. It's actually a heartwarming video, if you have nostalgia for the days of films like CARNOSAUR, as Lance and I do.
I'm not even that fond of the first CARNOSAUR, although it will always have a place in my heart and mind because of my childhood viewings of it. I actually prefer CARNOSAUR 2, which is a blatant rip-off of ALIENS. But with dinosaurs.
