It’s been seven years since the release of the last Expendables film, but the gang of thrill-seeking older gentlemen are ready to roll once again. It was announced late last month that The Expendables 4 was a go with Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture all set to reprise their roles. THR has now reported that Andy Garcia is set to join them in the action sequel.
Andy Garcia will play a CIA agent who is assigned to accompany the Expendables on their latest dangerous mission. In addition to Andy Garcia, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture, The Expendables 4 will also feature Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, and Tony Jaa. Production on the film is set to kick off next month under the direction of Scott Waugh from a screenplay by Spenser Cohen with revisions by Max Adams and John Joseph Connolly.
Jason Constantine, President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said, “We are thrilled to partner with our friends at Millennium Media for the next installment of the Expendables franchise. It’s so much fun to bring these stars together for a no-holds-barred action film. The new film will raise the stakes and be the biggest, most badass adventure yet.” Jeffrey Greenstein, Millennium Media President, added, “The Expendables are back, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring this star studded, action packed film to the big screen with Lionsgate, who have been with us since the inception of this franchise. To keep it fresh and fun, we’ve added exciting new stars to join the veterans; popcorn entertainment is guaranteed.” The Expendables 4 doesn’t have an official release just yet but is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2022.
