2021 marks the 40th anniversary of the first screening of Sam Raimi’s classic feature debut The Evil Dead (watch it HERE), and the collectible makers at NECA are celebrating the film by releasing an Ash Williams figure that matches the look of the iconic hero in the original film; the days before he became a badass Deadite killer, lost his right hand, and strapped a chainsaw onto his wrist.
NECA teased out the existence of the Ash figure by sharing a picture of some of his accessories – an axe, a shotgun, a chainsaw, a tape recorder – back in February. Now they have posted a picture of the figure itself, relaxing in a rocking chair with the tape recorder, the axe, and a lantern nearby.
There’s still no word on when NECA will be releasing this Ash figure, but the day has to be drawing near.
The original The Evil Dead has the following synopsis:
Ash (Bruce Campbell), his girlfriend Linda (Betsy Baker), his sister Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss), and couple Scotty (Hal Delrich) and Shelly (Sarah York), drive to a remote cabin in the woods for a fun getaway. While there, they find the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis (aka “The Book of the Dead”), an ancient tome whose text reawakens the dead when read out loud. After unintentionally releasing a flood of evil, the five friends must fight for their lives or become possessed.
Fathom Events is celebrating the film’s anniversary by teaming up with Grindhouse Releasing to beam The Evil Dead out to theatres nationwide on Thursday, October 7th at 7:30 pm (local time). The screening will start with a special introduction from star Bruce Campbell.
Campbell played Ash in The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and three seasons of the Ash vs. Evil Dead television series. He has also voiced the character for multiple video games.
