The Equalizer earns two season renewal at CBS

CBS’ The Equalizer isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. It has been announced that the network has renewed the hit drama for not one but two more seasons. The Queen Latifah-fronted series will now run through seasons 3 and 4, beginning with the 2022-2023 broadcast season, per Deadline.

It makes sense that CBS would want to keep The Equalizer in place on its schedule. It’s led by a popular star in Queen Latifah and it has proven to be a solid ratings hit. The series is Sunday’s No.1 scripted series, averaging 9.4 million viewers. The show is also a strong social media player having amassed 1.2 billion potential social media impressions, per CBS. Thom Sherman, senior executive vice president of programming at CBS Entertainment, had this to say about the two-season renewal:

“The Equalizer continues to pack a powerful punch on Sunday nights, and we’re thrilled to have it back for two more seasons. The success of The Equalizer is due to the sum of its parts – an outstanding cast led by the superb Queen Latifah, plus the exceptional creative team that has continued to evolve their storytelling with a compelling mix of everyday justice, family dynamics and real-world issues that connect and resonate with audiences.”

Also starring Lorrain Toussaint, Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, and Laya DeLeon Hayes, The Equalizer is the second reboot in the franchise following the 2014 and 2018 films, which starred Denzel Washington. They’re all a reboot of the 1980s series of the same name. On CBS’ The Equalizer, “the series centers around Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman in New York City and single mother to teenage daughter Delilah, with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn, acting as a guardian angel and a defender for those who cannot defend themselves while pursuing her own redemption.”
