The Equalizer 3: New behind-the-scenes clip brings audience up to speed with Robert McCall’s story

The official Twitter account for The Equalizer 3 from Sony Pictures is starting to build the anticipation for the upcoming action film with a new behind-the-scenes video featuring interviews with the movie’s star, Denzel Washington, and director Antoine Fuqua. In the newest clip, we’re given a brief rundown on the history of the franchise and the journey that the audience has taken with Robert McCall.

The Twitter post from the film’s official account posts the video with the caption, “It’s time to catch up with the GOAT. Relive Robert McCall’s journey before seeing Denzel Washington in the final chapter. #TheEqualizer3 – exclusively in movie theaters September 1.” In the video, Washington remarks that people hound him, “When’s the next Equalizer?” To which he replied, “I’m like, ‘Why do you guys like that movie so much?'” Then he reveals their response, “He says, ‘Cause you get the guys we wanna get!” Denzel and Antoine Fuqua, then, proceed to recall the events of the first two which then lead up to this film.

The synopsis for The Equalizer 3, per IMDb, reads, “Robert McCall finds himself at home in Southern Italy but he discovers his friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.”

This entry in the series is being touted as the finale for the franchise. At least with Denzel’s incarnation. Washington recently spoke with Empire about how he feels this installment will be the last for the character, “I don’t want to say he’s found happiness, and I don’t want to give it all away, but he meets someone lovely, he’s in a lovely town, and he seems to be at peace. That seems to be a good place to stop. I didn’t know that there were going to be three. Definitely didn’t know that when we did the first one. I didn’t know how it would end.”

Then the series’ director, Fuqua, would echo that sentiment, “This is it. Robert McCall, the working-man hero, at some point he’s got to walk away from it. At some point someone else has to pick up the ball and serve justice. He’s served his justice. He’s in a foreign place, he’s trying to find a home, find a place in the world. That’s really what’s important.”
