The Drive sequel is just a book, not a movie, for now

Despite having relatively little driving and being not at all what I expected, DRIVE is one of my favorite movies of this year, with its commitment to slow burn making its moments of extreme violence more powerful than any movie in recent memory.

It was the definition of a good standalone film. I don’t need to see a sequel to learn what happens next to the mysterious drive, nor do I need a prequel telling me his backstory. But alas, a sequel is in the works, but not as a film. Not yet at least.

The book is called Driven, and that’s cover art for it to the right. The story details are scarce, but we do have this:

Six years later – Phoenix. Out of nowhere someone wants Driver dead. Who? Why? Big mistake…

Now, there’s no indication that this will become a film, but DRIVE was technically a success, grossing $35M on a $15M budget. Now that people actually know what the film is (it seemed pretty obscure at the time) and it’s developing sort of a cult following, I would in no way rule it out that this might make it to the screen some day, for better or worse.
