Deadline reports that Mena Suvari (American Horror Story) has signed on to join the cast of writer/director Michael Ryan’s cyberpunk film The Dresden Sun, an interesting-sounding project that is also set to star Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead), Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets), and Samantha Win (Army of the Dead). That’s a strong cast for a film to have, and the story Ryan will be dropping them into
observes as a heist goes south when Crilenger – a brilliant, principled mercenary with a traumatic past – works with an insider to steal a valued asset from Peredor Corporation called “the sphere”. The C & Earth corporation, vying for global dominance, seeks to find a solution to an otherworldly technology via a scientist’s project. Meanwhile, a financial analyst, who despises his job at the powerful investment firm Mutual One, finds himself caught between deadly corporate rivals, financial fraud, and technological espionage, and is ultimately forced to run from a psychopathic military contractor.
Ogg is playing Crilenger.
The synopsis sounded solid throughout and got a boost with the mention of “an otherworldly technology”, but it really won me over at the end with talk of Crilenger having to go on the run from “a psychopathic military contractor”. I look forward to hearing who’s playing the psycho in The Dresden Sun, as that’s actually the role I would have expected Ogg to play.
In addition to American Horror Story, Suvari is best known for the roles she played in American Beauty and American Pie. It seems that if something has “American” in the title, it increases the chance that she’s going to be cast in it.
Ryan is producing the film with Tyler Lockamy, through their Archetype Pictures banner.
