We've been keeping close tabs on Jose Prendes' upcoming serial killer fever dream THE DIVINE TRAGEDIES, bringing you the first word on the project in January when we learned that principal photography on the film was set to begin later this month. We recently learned that genre fave Ken Foree had signed on to star in the film that is being described as "AMERICAN PSYCHO meets VIDEODROME, by way of John Carpenter", and today we have some new casting news as one of the most recognizable faces in horror has joined the ever-growing cast list with the addition of PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS and HATCHET III actor Sean Whalen.
Based loosely on the famous Leopold and Loeb murder case of 1924, it tells the tale of Charles Brubaker (played by Graham Denman, The Haunting of Whaley House) and his half-brother Thomas Lo Bianco (played by Jon Kondelik, Airplane Vs. Volcano), who concoct a deadly game to test their superior intelligence against the dimwitted masses. This game will eventually lead to murder, and when Genevieve, a beautiful single mother, enters their lives they finally find the perfect girl for their first kill. But, problems arise when they quickly discover that Detective Homer Gaul (Ken Foree), a cop with a very special gift, is hot on their trail.
Whalen is set to play Doug, a crackhead who sends the brothers on their journey early on with 'a nail-biting sequence that is guaranteed to be hard to sit through'.
THE DIVINE TRAGEDIES sounds as if it could be a real mind-bender, throwing everything from horror and suspense, a police procedural, and a David Lynch-ian vibe into the mix. The film is being produced by Jon Kondelik & James Kondelik under their production company Dual Visions.
