All sorts of nominations have been announced lately and as we eagerly await the Academy Award nominations, these are fun to check out in the meantime. Today we have a look at some Director's Guild noms that include a few familiar names, as well as some names we haven't seen on a list so far. Without further ado, the nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for 2016 are:
- Damien Chazelle – LA LA LAND
- Garth Davis – LION
- Barry Jenkins – MOONLIGHT
- Kenneth Lonergan – MANCHESTER BY THE SEA
- Denis Villeneuve – ARRIVAL
We also have the nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-time Feature Film Director for 2016 which include:
- Garth Davis – LION
- Kelly Fremon Craig – THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN
- Tim Miller – DEADPOOL
- Dan Trachtenberg – 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE
For what it's worth, I love that Dan Trachtenberg is getting some recognition with 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE. It's definitely in my top ten of last year and a really solid directorial debut. I suppose that DEADPOOL movie was okay too . . . In any case, it looks like all the usual suspects are here and count me surprised if LA LA LAND doesn't win the former category.
