The Devil’s Trap: Bruce Dern stars in Mike Mendez horror film

Veteran actor Bruce Dern, who has been nominated for an Oscar twice (for his performances in 1979’s Coming Home and 2014’s Nebraska) and has 189 screen acting credits to his name other than those two, has signed on to star in The Devil’s Trap, the latest horror film from director Mike Mendez, a genre regular who is fresh off making a bloody cameo in James Wan’s Malignant.

Dern’s co-stars in The Devil’s Trap will include Richard Grieco (If Looks Could Kill), Michael Paré (The Shelter), Sofia Nistratova (Paper Empire), and Nick Davi (Big Life).

Scripted by Michael Caissie (No Tears in Hell) from a story by Alexander Nistratov (The Curse of the Clown Motel), the film will show us what happens when “a big city hospital is terrorized by a demonic presence.”

In the quiet nighttime corridors and patient rooms of a city hospital, Abigail (Nistratova) consoles her traumatized brother, Billy (Davi) who is now a paraplegic. Billy suffers from horrible nightmares in which he revisits his childhood, where we meet his alcoholic and violent father. Sharing Billy’s hospital room is a dying man, Mr. Cohen (Dern) who seems to know everything about Billy and Abigail. There’s also another horrific presence roaming in the hospital terrifying patients and staff alike. Paré portrays Father Gestas. Grieco is the lovestruck hospital orderly who worships his nurse g.f. Diana. Their romantic interludes in dark corners of the hospital make his job much easier.

Mendez has made some really cool horror movies over the last twenty-five years, from his feature debut Killers to his 2016 “Dolph Lundgren vs. demons” movie Don’t Kill It. His other credits include The Convent, The Gravedancers, Big Ass Spider!, Lavalantula, The Last Heist, and a segment of the anthology Tales of Halloween.

I watch everything Mendez makes, so The Devil’s Trap is already on my “must see” list.
