Just like a Band-Aid…just like a Band-Aid. Alright, here it goes. THE DARK TOWER is being pushed back from February 2017 to an unofficial date in the summer, according to an exclusive from EW. I will give you a few moments to throw whatever loose objects are around you, and to scream at children passing by. Don’t worry, they’ll understand.
Sources told EW that although the movie finished filming this summer, the goal of achieving a February release was just not possible given the amount of work needed to be done on the visual effects. On top of that, the studio feels it needs more time to give the movie the proper amount of promotion, and with only four months to go that didn't seem possible. The source had this to say:
“It’s a very fiscally responsible budget, and trying to stay in budget to make money and stay profitable means the VFX won’t be finished in time [for February]. Now that there’s more time, they’re not paying rush charges to get the effects where they need to be.”
The movie's relatively small budget ($60 million) put some restraints on the production of the movie, which meant it was either push the date back, or add millions more so that work could be sped up. The obvious choice was the former, which will also give the studio more time to put together a proper trailer with finished visual effects, unlike the trailer that leaked not long ago. This also includes other methods of promotion that has more time to be worked on, like posters, banners and TV spots.
Though it all makes sense as to why, it still isn’t an easy swallow. We were months away from seeing the finished product, and now we only have a vague release slot. Not to mention the movie will now be crammed in with all the other summer releases, which could influence the movie’s success. Oh well, maybe it was too good to think we were this close, and if it means the movie will be as good as it can be then it's ultimately okay with me. I guess Valentine's Day is gonna be another sad one for this poor ol' chum…
THE DARK TOWER with Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will now be out sometime in the summer of 2017.
