The Dagon: Frank Grillo vs. deadly creatures in Brad Anderson’s new film

Frank Grillo is on a genre streak! We’ve recently heard that he’ll be starring in the cult thriller Man’s Son, which is being directed by his own son Remy Grillo, and he’s about to head into production on Steven C. Miller’s werewolf movie Year 2. Now our friends at Bloody Disgusting report that Grillo has signed on to star in The Dagon, the new film from Session 9 director Brad Anderson… and this one is going to be pitting him against “deadly creatures”!

Back in 1917, author H.P. Lovecraft wrote a story called Dagon, which was about “a deity who presides over the Deep Ones, an amphibious humanoid race that currently resides in the Earth’s oceans.” Stuart Gordon drew inspiration from that story for his 2001 movie Dagon… but if Anderson’s film has anything to do with the Lovecraft story, that information wasn’t included in this initial announcement.

We do know that Anderson’s The Dagon, which is described as a gripping psychological thriller, will tell the following story:

When the eldest daughter comes of age, an isolated family taking shelter in their rural house must confront the terrifying, deadly creatures that surround them every night.

The Dagon is being produced by Neal Edelstein and Mike Macari. Independent Entertainment is representing the film at the Cannes film market.

Whether or not The Dagon has anything to do with Lovecraft, I’m excited to see a Brad Anderson movie that’s about Frank Grillo confronting terrifying, deadly creatures. Are you? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

In addition to Session 9, Anderson has directed Next Stop Wonderland, Happy Accidents, The Machinist, the Sounds Like installment of Masters of Horror, the Spooked episode of Fear Itself, Vanishing on 7th Street, The Call, Stonehearst Asylum, multiple episodes of Fringe, and Fractured, among other titles.
