The CW’s Slay: Regina King to executive produce supernatural series

The CW's popular genre series Supernatural will soon be coming to an end after fifteen seasons, and it sounds like the network is lining up another genre show to fill the gap that will be left by the retirement of Sam and Dean Winchester. The new show now in development is called Slay, and it will focus on a girl named Carson Jones.

She is described as a bold, witty teenager with afro puffs, leather boots, seventies cool, and – thanks to her mother’s ancient African bloodline – supernatural gifts and the responsibility to use them to protect Virginia’s Historic Triangle (one of the most haunted areas in the country) from the forces of darkness.

That concept brings to mind Buffy as well, but Carson Jones sounds like a promising character to me.

Fresh off of winning an Emmy (her fourth) for her performance on the HBO series Watchmen, Regina King (who also happens to be an Oscar winner) will be executive producing Slay alongside her sister Reina King, through their company Royal Ties. Pam Veasey is supervising and executive producing the show, with Julian Johnson writing and co-executive producing.

Slay is being produced by CBS Television Studios.
