Apple TV+ has landed Tom Holland for a new anthology series called The Crowded Room.
Holland will play Billy Morgan, the first person ever acquitted of a crime because of Multiple Personality Disorder, now known as Dissociative Identity Disorder. The project hails from Akiva Goldsman, who is set to write and produce the series. Per Deadline, The Crowded Room is an anthology series that will explore the true and inspirational stories of those who have struggled, and learned to successfully live with, mental illness. The first season is inspired by Daniel Keyes’ biography The Minds of Billy Milligan.
The 10-episode series is Holland's newest project for Apple, after starring in Cherry for directors Joe and Anthony Russo. In addition to his starring role, Holland will executive produce alongside Goldsman, who is executive producing through Weed Road Productions. Alexandra Milchan of EMJAG Productions, and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Michael Schaefer will also executive produce.
When he's not swinging through the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Spider-Man, Holland can be found showing audiences that he's much more than a plucky superhero. I'll be interested to see his portrayal of Dissociative Identity Disorder and hope that those in charge of the project treat the mental disorder with the respect and care it deserves.
