Great, another update on the long talked about remake of THE CROW that doesn’t actually tell us anything. Is this movie ever going to come out? Deadline got the word that Corin Hardy has been given the nod to helm the project as he replaces F. Javier Gutiérrez, who signed on to direct the next installment of THE RING franchise instead.
So, who is Corin Hardy? That’s a good question, actually. The only feature film under his belt at the moment is a little film called THE HALLOW, which hasn’t even been released yet, making this an intriguing choice by Relativity Studios. Apparently, Edgar Wright was the one who actually recommended Hardy to Edward R. Pressman, the producer of the original 1994 film and is producing the reboot. How's that for an endorsement? Still, it's nice to see Relativity take a chance on an up-and-coming director like Hardy, who's getting one hell of an opportunity to leave his mark on an iconic character like Eric Draven.
THE CROW, which was first brought to the screen by director Alex Proyas and the late actor Brandon Lee, is about a murdered man who comes back for revenge. Pretty simple, this one.
THE CROW is slated for a spring production start with a script by Cliff Dorfman. Gutierrez will be exec producer and O’Barr a consultant. Joining Pressman as producers are Kevin Misher, Relativity’s Ryan Kavanaugh, Jeff Most (who produced the original with Pressman), and Jeff Waxman. Tucker Tooley, Bob and Harvey Weinstein and Dan Farah are exec producers.
