The Crow reboot to star Bill Skarsgard with Rupert Sanders directing

Bill Skarsgard, The Crow reboot

Here we go again. THR has reported that The Crow reboot is back in action with Bill Skarsgard set to star as Eric Draven. Rupert Sanders, best known for Snow White and the Huntsman and Ghost in the Shell, will direct the remake.

Created by James O’Barr, The Crow was a Gothic superhero comic book series that followed an undead rocker named Eric Draven. In the comic, Eric’s fiancee Shelly is assaulted and brutally murdered in front of him, and Eric is shot and left for dead. After being resurrected by a crow, Eric uses his supernatural abilities to hunt and kill those responsible for his eternal pain. The comic was first adapted to the big screen in 1994 with Brandon Lee starring as Eric, but sadly, an on-set accident led to Lee’s death. Several sequels and a TV series followed the film but none were able to capture the success of the first.

There have been various attempts at rebooting The Crow over the years, but none have been able to get off the ground. The most recent was supposed to have starred Jason Momoa and would have been directed by Corin Hardy, but it fell apart several years ago. Given how many times Hollywood has attempted to reboot The Crow, you’d be forgiven for not taking this latest iteration seriously. Still, THR says that the Bill Skarsgard reboot of The Crow is well into pre-production at this point and is expected to start shooting this June in Prague and Munich with a $50 million budget. Zach Baylin, who recently scored an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay on King Richard, is onboard to write the script for The Crow reboot. Bill Skarsgard was most recently featured in Eternals as the voice of the Deviant Kro and will next be seen in John Wick: Chapter 4 on March 24, 2023.
