The creators of Reno 911 spoof horror movies in the trailer for Hell Baby

I used to love the sketch comedy series The State on MTV. Multiple veterans of that show went on to create the Comedy Central series Viva Variety and Reno 911!, both of which I watched here and there. The creators of those shows, Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, are back with HELL BABY, a movie spoofing horror films like ROSEMARY’S BABY, THE OMEN, and THE EXORCIST.

While other spoofs like SCARY MOVIE and A HAUNTED HOUSE focus on the current trends in horror like PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and THE DEVIL INSIDE, HELL BABY looks to focus more on retro horror movies from the 70s and 80s, which is fine by me. The movie tells the story of a couple played by Rob Corddry and Leslie Bibb who buy a haunted house in New Orleans and are subjected to demons, ghosts, and more. Lennon and Garant play a pair of Vatican exorcists.

While you shouldn’t expect much quality from a movie like this, HELL BABY looks a lot better than I expected it to. I laughed throughout, even at the cliche jokes. As a fan of the Adult Swim series CHILDRENS’ HOSPITAL, I love this cast and will give this movie a shot. Plus, as long as it isn’t SCARY MOVIE, I am in.

HELL BABY stars Rob Corddry, Leslie Bibb, Thomas Lennon, Riki Lindhome, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel, Keegan Michael Key, Kumail Nanjiani, Robert Ben Garant, Michael Ian BlackWriters:Robert Ben Garant, and Thomas Lennon. It opens in theaters on September 6, 2013.
