Writer/director Justin Dec's horror film COUNTDOWN, which mixes technology with the supernatural, is set to reach theatres this weekend, and just ahead of the film's release we have an EXCLUSIVE clip that offers a glimpse of the sort of horror that the app at the center of the story unleashes on its victims.
Starring Elizabeth Lail of the thriller series You, COUNTDOWN will show what happens when
a young nurse downloads an app that claims to predict exactly when a person is going to die. It tells her she only has three days to live. With time ticking away and a mysterious figure haunting her, she must find a way to save her life before time runs out.
Lail's co-stars include Peter Facinelli, P.J. Byrne, Anne Winters, comedian Tom Segura, Jordan Calloway, Tichina Arnold, and Talitha Bateman.
COUNTDOWN has inspired a very popular real life app that can be downloaded at Countdown.movie/app. This is
a new free app that appeared in the iOS App store only a few weeks ago and has already been downloaded over 6 million times. Mysteriously, after climbing to the #1 spot in the iTunes App Store, the app was pulled down from the store. And then less than a week later, it returned; shooting right back up into the app charts. What is it? Why is this creepy app such a viral sensation?
Inspired by the upcoming STXfilms release, COUNTDOWN, the app was actually created by an excited horror film fan – and once it’s downloaded, it gives users a creepy countdown to represent their time left to live. People are absolutely obsessed with this macabre concept!
Our exclusive clip is embedded above, and below you can see a cool poster that STXfilms commissioned artist Randy Ortiz to create.
The countdown until the moment COUNTDOWN will be reaching theatres isn't a long one. Its release date is October 25th.
