The DCEU has gotten off to a rough start (at least in terms of reception), but the DC TV universe has been thriving thanks to shows like ARROW, THE FLASH and SUPERGIRL. However, the run of shows isn’t without their black sheep as one show, CONSTANTINE, was cancelled after one season on NBC. Fans were hoping that the home of the other three shows, THE CW, would pick it up and continue the run. That happened, and the show will live, but not in the form fans were expecting.
News has hit that the character will return to TV in the form of an animated series which will air on CW Seed, an arm of The CW that creates original content exclusively for digital platforms. Live-action series star Matt Ryan will return to voice the character. David S. Goyer, who co-created and executive produced the show at NBC, will return for the animated series, and Greg Berlanti (who runs the DC slate at CW) will oversee the show which has been approved for five to six 10-minute episodes. Check out some art for the show below!
Though the show was cancelled after a tough run on NBC, it still had its fans who hoped it would live on in some form. After CW got the rights Ryan appeared on Arrow as the character, and though there are no plans do another live-action series, CW president Mark Pedowitz said they would like to have the character back on saying he "added dimension." Still, his appearance gave fans a glimmer of hope the rogue would live to fight demons another day.
Fight another day he shall, but I don’t think this was the way people hoped he would. Basically, the character is only guaranteed an hour of story time, and not even on the company’s main network. Sure, the character and Ryan’s interpretation will live on, but I would think fans were expecting something more…not animated and split up into 10 minutes at a time. Eh, still…baby steps.
There is no official premiere date announced for the first episodes.
