A handful of ABC shows just received some good news! It has been announced that The Conners, Home Economics, The Rookie, The Goldbergs, & A Million Little Things have all been renewed at the network. It will be season 4 for The Conners, season 2 for Home Economics, season 4 for The Rookie, season 9 for The Goldbergs, & season 4 for A Million Little Things.
The Conners returning is no surprise. It's the highest-rated comedy on their lineup and the cast just inked new deals to return. The Goldbergs was also a no-brainer because it's also one of ABC's top-rated comedies as well. Some thought that the passing on George Segal, who played Albert 'Pops' Solomon, might put a renewal in question but that wasn't the case. I wouldn't be surprised if some kind of tribute episode aired for him next season. As for freshman Home Economics, while live ratings are soft, the reviews for the Topher Grace-led comedy have been very good from critics & it's doing well in delayed viewing. The series is also very well-liked at the network and that went a long way to get it a second season.
As for the dramas that were renewed, The Nathan Fillion-led cop drama The Rookie was also a lock to return as it's one of ABC's most-watched dramas. The series has given their Sunday night lineup a boost and Fillion is well-liked at the network because of his past success with Castle. In the case of A Million Things, it has proven that fans will follow the series as it shifts frequently on the schedule & it's a strong DVR and streaming performer, a metric that all the networks are now paying very close attention to.
