The first trailer for The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It has been released and it features Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga's Ed and Lorraine Warren on one of their most sensational cases that takes them out of haunted houses and into the world of murder and demonic possession.
The third film of The Conjuring franchise is based on the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, a murder trial that took place in 1981 in Connecticut. The film "reveals a chilling story of terror, murder, and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational cases from their files starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they'd ever seen before. This marks the first in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense."
Development on the third film began in 2016, shortly after the release of The Conjuring 2. It was established early on that the film would not be another haunted house story that will make this installment differ significantly from its predecessors. In addition to Wilson and Farmiga, the film also stars Ruairi O'Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Julian Hilliard.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It was scheduled to be released on September 11, 2020, but was delayed due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the movie industry. Directed by Michael Chaves, who helmed the Conjuring Universe entry The Curse of La Llorona, the third installment of The Conjuring franchise will hit theaters and HBO Max on June 4, 2021.
