The Conjuring 3 is a completely different movie than the first two

THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA director Michael Chaves' THE CONJURING 3 AKA  THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren will hit a theater near you (hopefully) this September. And today, screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick says THE CONJURING 3 will expand the franchise beyond the "haunted house" formula.

He tweets:

[The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It] is a completely different movie than the first two. The franchise is expanding beyond the "haunted house" formula.

Starring Wilson and Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT will tell a chilling story of

terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.

Ruairi O'Connor (TEEN SPIRIT), Sarah Catherine Hook (TRIANGLE), and Julian Hilliard (THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE) are also in the cast. Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Victoria Palmeri, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Michelle Morrissey serve as executive producers.

THE CONJURING and THE CONJURING 2 director James Wan will remain on board this third film as a producer alongside Peter Safran but is handing directing duties over to THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA director Michael Chaves. Wan crafted the story with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who wrote the screenplay. THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT is scheduled to reach theatres on September 11, 2020.
