Boy, I've just now realized I haven't heard one good thing about THE BYE BYE MAN. That's strange. Reminds my of when OUIJA first came out. Anyways, being that I'm not one to sit back and let a general consensus win out, I went on the hunt for someone, anyone who liked the film and/or had something positive to say about it.
Turns out I didn't have to go far.
In the press release AITH was sent from THE BYE BYE MAN peeps, there is a blurb which reads "A terrifying boogeyman for a new generation." The blurb is attributed to Clarke Wolfe. Now it's possible you don't know the name, but I do. I've been a fan of since listening to The Bloodcast, a podcast she co-hosted along with Ryan Rotten (sorry) Ryan Turek, a few years back.
I tend to trust Clarke Wolfe's judgement, so I'm a little perplexed right now. Is THE BYE BYE MAN worth seeing? Our own Jake Dee didn't like it much… I guess we'll find out soon as THE BYE BYE MAN will be arriving on Digital HD April 11, and on Blu-ray, DVD and VOD April 25. The release will be the unrated edition and will feature "all-new shocking never-before-seen footage!"
Oh, goodie. Guess if I'm ever going to give it a try might as well check out the unrated version, right? Urgh. We'll see about that. For those who don't know and are intrigued by the film, here is the synopsis via press release:
From the producer of Oculus and The Strangers comes The Bye Bye Man. When three college friends stumble upon the horrific origins of the Bye Bye Man, they discover that there is only one way to avoid his curse: don’t think it, don’t say it. But once the Bye Bye Man gets inside your head, he takes control, making you see and do the most unspeakable acts committed by man. Is there a way to survive his possession? Starring Douglas Smith (Ouija) and Carrie Anne-Moss (The Matrix), see the chilling thriller that critics are calling “a paranormal thrill ride that will echo in your nightmares” (Elizabeth Rayne, Den Of Geek).
Oh, just noticed another one there with Elizabeth Rayne from Den of Geek, calling the film “a paranormal thrill ride that will echo in your nightmares." Hurm. I'm not familiar with Rayne, or her taste in flicks, so I'll take that one with a grain of salt. Tell me what YOU thought below!
THE BYE BYE MAN stars Douglas Smith, Lucien Laviscount, Cressida Bonas, Doug Jones, Carrie-Anne Moss, Faye Dunaway, written by Jonathan Penner, based on the novel “The Bridge to Body Island” by Robert Damon Schneck, and directed by Stacy Title.
The film is set to hit Blu-ray April 25. You can pre-order your copy HERE.
